The Golden Age of Frills

Sandwiched between the World Wars, the 30s was an era of escapism. It ushered in new attitudes to design and saw the blossoming of female designers Madame Vionnet, Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaparelli. The streamlined boyish silhouettes of the 20s were replaced with frills, bows and femine flourishes. Waistlines were more fitted and shoulders emphasised with puffy sleeve shapes.
